If your home features oak floors, soapstone counters, or a rustic modern vibe, you might be sitting on a hidden goldmine. Zillow’s latest report digs into over 2 million listings to uncover which home features are drawing attention—and higher offers—in today’s market.
While national trends give helpful clues, your local market tells the full story. If you’re curious how these ideas apply to your home, I’d love to help you assess what matters most in our area.
Let’s take a look at what’s trending—and potentially profitable.
Design lovers are gravitating toward “organic modernism”—a style that blends natural materials and minimalist finishes. Think soapstone countertops, white oak floors, and clean, earthy palettes. Homes using this term in their listings sold for an average of $12,500 more than similar properties.
Once reserved for luxury homes, wet rooms (fully waterproofed shower and bath areas) are now popping up in mid-range homes—and adding serious value. Zillow found that homes with wet rooms can sell for 3.3% more on average.
More buyers are dreaming of entertaining under the stars. Listings that highlight features like outdoor kitchens (worth +2.2%) and outdoor showers (especially near coastal areas, adding up to 2.8%) are catching attention—and higher offers.
Can’t do a full kitchen remodel? No problem. New appliances alone can boost your home’s value by nearly 3%. Stainless steel, energy-efficient models, and smart features are especially attractive to modern buyers.
Flooring still makes a big impression. Teak floors can increase your home’s value by 3.7%, and white oak comes in close at 3.2%. If you’re not replacing floors, consider sanding and staining existing wood for a refreshed look.
These Zillow trends offer valuable insight—but remember, what works nationally may not apply directly to your neighborhood. That’s where local expertise makes the difference.
